To apply for an arts student position in Edmonton, please send an application package: all applications under Article 2022-2023 (including transcripts and letters of reference) must be received by noon on December 1, 2020. During their artistic semester with the court, students hone their legal skills in research, analysis and writing and learn valuable lessons in the art of representing interests by observing the lawyer in court. In direct response to concerns from both students and the broader profession about the economic and logistical challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Alberta Law Society has made changes to the articling requirements and increased the Practical Education Program (PREP) grant to give businesses and organizations flexibility while navigating through the articling period. The aim of these changes is to create flexibility for businesses, courts, school heads and students in these difficult times. Some companies with sophisticated articling programs and rotation systems may prefer students to leave for 12 full months so that their programs are not disrupted. Other companies may prefer to reduce the duration of the articling to less than 12 months for financial or other reasons. Here, too, it is about creating flexibility and allowing businesses, courts and students to decide what works best in their circumstances. After completing your three years of legal training and obtaining a bachelor`s degree in civil law in Quebec at one of the recognized universities (see step 3 above), you must work for four months at the École du bar du Québec (Ecole du Barreau de Québec) and follow professional training and practice.
